Remember: AI, unconscious bias, and CV design in Switzerland
Owing to the increased use of AI tools, many recruiters now assume that CVs have been at least partially created with AI. In particular, CVs that are linguistically very polished, highly standardized, or clearly based on Anglo-Saxon templates are more quickly perceived as AI-generated, regardless of whether this is actually the case.
This means you should
In a Swiss CV, the emphasis is more on clearly described activities and responsibilities rather than heavily marketed success stories.
Results and successes can be referenced, but they should be specific, fact-based, and embedded in the respective task description.
A style more suited to the U.S. job market can be perceived as inappropriate in Switzerland, thereby reinforcing the impression that the CV is not genuine.
Use AI tools to support you in developing the structure, generating ideas, and formulating alternatives. You should not rely on AI to create a finished CV from scratch.
Revise each AI formulation to be shorter, more specific, and more activity oriented.
If in doubt, get a second opinion by asking someone (e.g., Career Services) to check whether your CV looks authentic.
Remember to observe the data protection recommendations.
You can use text-based AI tools to sharpen individual passages or check the common thread of your CV. However, you are always responsible for the content.
Example formulation for an AI tool: "I have the following job description on my CV [I was responsible for social media and wrote posts.]
Formulate this description with active verbs, as precisely as possible, and only if it makes sense, with numbers. Formulate a maximum of two to three bullet points in a factual style that is suitable for a Swiss CV."
Example formulation for an AI tool: "During my internship at [company], I worked on a project in which [description]. The result was [outcome].
Help me to formulate two or three short bullet points that clearly describe my activities and mention the outcome in a factual way."
Example formulation for an AI tool: "Here is a description from my CV, and here are the contents of a job advertisement. Suggest minor adjustments to the description that better meet the requirements, without inventing or exaggerating anything. Keep a factual Swiss style."
Example formulation for an AI tool: "Check the following CV text for spelling, consistency, and clear, factual language, suitable for the Swiss job market. Make specific suggestions for improvement without changing my personal style too much."
